With temperatures reaching 90 degrees last weekend in NYC, we were excited to get out of the city and into the woods. We arrived in Chichester, NY after dark, able to see lots of stars and a porcupine climbing up a tree in the beam of our headlights. The next morning, we discovered the beauty of Nackapent. Ten minutes past Phoenicia, up a winding and forested road, is one of the best kept secrets on AirBNB. Nackapent is a tiny, two-bedroom cabin situated on over 150 acres of land, surrounded by mountains with hiking trails and its own creek for swimming.

On Saturday, after breakfast on the cabin porch, we headed out for a hike to the Mt. Tremper Fire Tower. The hike is about 5.5 miles roundtrip, with an amazing view from a tower at the top.

We got back to the cabin in time to jump into one of the swimming holes just before an afternoon rainstorm moved in. We finished the day with a campfire and many, many S’mores.
