Just two hours north of NYC, the Catskills are the perfect easy getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. (And if you follow our Instagram, you already know that this is our go-to escape.) Denny and I “discovered” it just three years ago; a friend recommended a trip upstate to celebrate our first anniversary. Fast-forward three years and we’re getting married in Phoenicia at that very same hotel.

During this short three-year span, we’ve been watching sleepy towns transform into tourist destinations with fabulous dining, shopping, and lodging options. And with the advent of AirBNB, and Instagram, it’s never been easier for New Yorkers to find unique experiences all over the region– be it hiking, camping, or “glamping” in geo-dome in the middle of the woods.

It may be hard to believe, but the Catskills were once a “see and be seen” destination, and we think it’s well on it’s way to becoming that again. So when we heard that the Catskills made the 2015 “must see” lists in Fodor’s, Travel + Leisure, and the New York Times, we can’t say we were surprised. (Not to mention all the love from Vogue recently–or Design*Sponge‘s guide to the area.) Check out each publication’s take on the area below.
