Hello, all, from the Escape team – happy Labor Day Weekend!

Summer is winding down, and while I’m so not ready for it, I must admit I’m looking forward to September. It is without a doubt The Best Month All Year. Giving equal parts hot days and cool nights, swimming hole and bonfire weather, it’s that absolutely perfect time to be Upstate. After a stretch of (return) hot weather, the cool mountain air just hits different. Today the high in the mountains is a glorious 70º.

We hope you’ll join us up here this season, and on September 1, we’ll be sharing 13 Upstate getaways extending exclusive, EB-only deals. We’ve also got a giveaway coming next week, so if you’ve been looking to subscribe, the time is now.

Til then, enjoy what we’ve put together this week on Escape. Toward the end, we’ve got a short list of some great looking Labor Day Weekend events, whether you’re looking for festivals, roller skating, concerts, or want to see some homes for sale (six, to be exact). And for those looking to build a house, we’ve got that too.

Have a safe and wonderful holiday,
-Erin & the EB team

Homestedt Houses: A Premium Home Design & Build Service in the Catskills

Homestedt’s Chalet model looks just perfect in the snowy setting of the Catskill Mountains. Photos: Catskill Image

In her current home of Livingston Manor, founder of Homestedt Houses Anna Åberg has spent the last 10 years renovating properties no one else dared take on: North Branch Cider MillLivingston Manor Fly Fishing Club and Seminary Hill Boarding House to name a few. All were large undertakings, where Anna and her team – including her husband, Tom Roberts – rescued these historic buildings and gave them a totally new life. During the many renovation projects, they made dozens of contacts, searching out the very best contractors and subcontractors in the area, building out their rolodexes.

Then they thought: what if they started their own homebuilding process from scratch?

Using 10+ years of experience in design and renovating, Homestedt Houses offers a service unlike anything else in the Catskills. Built from the ground up, these design-forward homes can be built in 10 months, offering a premium service that’s all about good design, convenience and efficiency.

Labor Day Weekend Showcase: Go See These Six Sullivan County Listings by Anatole House

Labor Day Weekend is one of the busiest weekends in Upstate New York. Rightfully so: it’s the perfect time of year for river trips, hikes in the woods, outdoor meals and bonfires. And if you’re really ambitious – as New Yorkers frequently are – you might find yourself home shopping.

This weekend, Catskills and Hudson Valley brokerage Anatole House is showing a handful of beautiful homes for sale, all in the Sullivan County region. Go see one, two, or all six!

Over on Escape Brooklyn, we compiled a list of all six homes, a downloadable map, plus some suggestions of fun stops along the way including hiking, shopping, and where to eat and drink.

The list begins in Jeffersonville, where we’re stopping into Sullivan Sundries for coffee and car provisions, and ends in Narrowsburg for riverside drinks and dinner.

Nearly two dozen bands and DJs head to The Avalon Lounge (and across the street to Left Bank Ciders) in Catskill for Dromfest – a weekend-long celebration of indie rock and alternative music.

Friday & Saturday: Skate Time

Saturday: Music at Arrowood Farms

Waxahatchee, Snail Mail, and Tim Heidecker perform at Arrowood Farms. Doors open at 4:30 pm, making it easy to grab a drink and food from vendors before the show starts.

This event is sold out, but join the waitlist to see if you can score last-minute tickets. Also of note: if you like Waxahatchee, you’ll love Woodsist Festival, also happening at Arrowood Farms in September.

Saturday: Honky-Tonk Market at the Tinker Street Tavern

Get your fix of all things honky-tonk with music from Los Neon Moons, 2-step lessons, and market vendors from Hawks Nest. Event starts at 7 pm at the Tinker Street Tavern; check out their live music lineup for more info.

Sunday: Fleischmanns Village Fest

This music, art, and food festival in the cute town of Fleishamnns is an all-day experience, with performances throughout Main Street Fleischmanns and a village-wide Out of the Attic sale. (If Doolittle’s has anything to do with it, you know it’s going to be fun.)

Free event, or a $20 ticket gets you $250 worth of discounts locally. Check out the event and purchase tickets on the Arts Inn Collective website.

Sunday: Country Music Festival at The Bearsville Theatre

From noon to 6pm, the Woodstock Country Music Festival is bringing country music, line dancing, home-cooked Southern food, and craft cocktails to The Bearsville Theatre. (Are you sensing a theme here? Very intro country these days.)

That’s all for this week – catch you soon, and have a great holiday weekend!
