Denny and I spend a good amount of time on the road, often packing our bags a half hour before we leave (and not unpacking them again until a half hour before the next trip.) And thanks to Denny’s attempt to be over-organized, we have two or three of everything–you should see our phone charger collection–yet somehow, we always forget something. Admittedly, we still don’t have traveling down to a science–but there are a few staple items that we never leave the house without.

• Indigo blanket: We sell this these beautiful vintage indigo blankets at the flea markets we set up at. Perfect for picnics, the beach, curling up with in front of a campfire, or just showing off because they’re that beautiful. Email The Brew and Compass for price inquiries.

• Sandals: Chamula Slingback Huarache Sandals, available at Madewell. $80. They match everything, are super comfortable, and they’re easy to slip on and off in the car during our roadtrips.

• Notebook: This super-clean designed 5×8″ notebook by Public Supply is the perfect size for my tote bag. The dotted (not lined) interior allows me to both sketch or jot notes down while we’re on the road. $15.

• Camera: We get asked all the time what we shoot with–it’s a Canon Rebel SLR1. Inexpensive, lightweight, reliable. Starting at $499.

• Levi’s 501 cutoffs: Perfect hiking, or just long car rides; I have four pairs in slightly different washes. Available anywhere they sell vintage, but my go-to place in the city is L Train Vintage.

• Bandanas: Easy accessory to wear with a top knot, or as a scarf. Since we both use them, we’re usually packing 4 or 5 between the both of us. Vintage and RRL in the photograph.

• Beauty: I’m obsessed with Sun Bum sunscreen because it smells amazing. They also have several outreach programs, which is important to me as a consumer. $16. I also love Days + Nights dry shampoo, which takes the hassle out of showering while we travel. Washing my long hair can be a pain, and often, we’re often in a hurry–this stuff does wonders to simplify my crazy life. $28. Pouch from Madewell.

• “Born to Run” coozies by Escape Brooklyn/The Brew and Compass. These great promotional items help not only to spread the word, but the money we make from them keeps us traveling. $3 or 2 for $5. Email The Brew and Compass to order.
