Eliza in Kingston, NY

Eliza comes from the team behind some of Kingston’s most-loved spots — Ollie’s Slice Shop, Fletcher & Lu, and Kingston Wine Co. — and carries that same thoughtful, food-forward energy into a more intimate, low-lit setting. The menu is built for sharing, making it an easy place for a date or a catch-up with a friend: oysters, small plates, pastas, and a few larger dishes to split, all paired with strong cocktails and a solid wine list. Enjoy a cocktail at the sultry bar before moving to a table (or booth, if you’re looking for a night out with friends) to enjoy an impressive dinner paired with a glass of wine. Moody maximalism meets Regency-era elegance at Black Walnut, a mercantile, restaurant, and lounge in the riverside town of Callicoon, NY. Enter through a well-stocked housewares mercantile into the brand-new dining area: a spacious room with Roman clay walls, intricate tin ceilings, and breathtaking murals. Before dinner, grab a cocktail at the bar (we recommend the Black Walnut, a bourbon-based cocktail with notes of walnut and maple) and sink into the vintage couches. After warming up with a drink, indulge in a Mediterranean dinner crafted in the open kitchen by Executive Chef and Co-owner Camille Rodriguez.

Tucked just off Warren Street, The Hereafter is a chic, city-leaning cocktail bar that feels made for date night. It works equally well as a quick stop before dinner or a place to linger afterward, with inventive, well-balanced drinks and a small menu of shareable bites. The space is warm, a little moody, and just lively enough to keep the night going without feeling hectic.

Mirador in Kingston, NY

Inspired by Andalusian tabancos (sherry bars), Mirador brings a different kind of cultural vibe to Midtown Kingston. While we highly recommend pairing tapas with sherry, this neighborhood bar also has incredible craft cocktails and vermouth paired with salty snacks to enjoy. Cozy up in a booth, or enjoy the company of Mirador’s knowledgeable bartenders with a seat at the bar. Afterward, head down the block and catch a show at Tubby’s, or head to Eliza for a nightcap at the bar.

Right on Delhi’s charming Main Street, Hollow shifts seamlessly from daytime café to an intimate evening restaurant. Breakfast and lunch are served in the front during the day; at night, dinner moves to the back, where the lighting drops and the space takes on a more social, tucked-away feel. The bar menu leans sharable and a little unexpected — duck fat potatoes, gratins, butter bean dip, kimchi jjigae — alongside cocktails and wine, making it an easy spot to settle in with a friend and order across the table.

Just outside Hudson, Casa Susanna brings Chef Efrén Hernández’s deeply personal, modern Mexican cooking to the Hudson Valley — and it shows. A multi-year James Beard semifinalist, Hernández centers the menu around an in-house masa program, pressing tortillas daily and building seasonal dishes from local farms, ranchers, and fishermen. The room glows at night, warm and intimate, with plates designed for passing and a bar that stays open late.

After enjoying a drink (or two), plan on grabbing dinner at Silvia or Good Night for upscale dining, or Early Terrible for plates to share. To round out an evening on the town, stop into The Colony for late night drinks paired with live music and dancing.

While we love everything about this noteworthy Upstate retreat, the hotel’s moody (and ridiculously sexy) cocktail lounge sits at the top of our list. With design details like leather-clad walls, a hand-carved fireplace, candlelit corners, and warm velvet furniture, this converted carriage house offers an intimate setting for solo drinks, dates, and group outings alike.
