A few weeks ago, some photographer friends and I rented a car and went in search of spring blossoms and fresh green leaves. Instead, we were enchanted by the wonderful ‘Sleeping Giant’. After a quick stopover in Westport for brunch, Sleeping Giant, with its riverside location and bemusing ruins, was quite a lovely relief from city life.
Once there, we decided against scaling the rather steep climb to the top and frolicked instead by the riverside.
Our next stopoff was the waterfalls at Southford Falls, a roadside location with a beautiful waterfall, covered bridge, and no hike at all. It’s the perfect charming setting for a summer day with picnic benches by the water.
Afterward, we rounded off the day with dinner at the Foundry Kitchen and Tavern in Sandy Hook. Their food was great and their wrap-around terrace looks straight onto the river. It made for a memorable meal and was the perfect ending to our afternoon away from the city.
