Tucked between the Adirondacks and the Green Mountains of Vermont, picturesque glamping getaway Sowilo Retreat offers a peaceful respite from city life. Guests may choose from an array of tiny houses and geodesic domes, each with amenities that provide a cushy experience while in the woods (think kitchens, bathrooms, A/C and heat.) Tiny homes can sleep up to four guests, so groups are welcome – and whole property rentals are available. All accommodations are pet friendly.

Adding to the experience, a main lodge serves as the gathering spot for meals, where the Eatery churns out the delicious breakfast and dinner for guests daily – to be enjoyed inside the lodge, on its deck over the mountains, or take it back to your campsite for a more intimate experience. Meals are made with ingredients from local suppliers, farmers markets, and organic farms. A dedicated nutritionist ensures that every meal is healthy and nourishing, and 100% organic ingredients straight from Mother Earth.

On the same wellness track, Sowlio offers meditation sessions, yoga sessions, sound healing and more – all complimentary. While you’re in town, here’s a few local gems we uncovered:

  • Argyle Brewing: sample some local craft brews at this cute nearby brewery, housed in an old train station.
  • Cambridge Co-Op: stock up on provisions and produce at this beautiful co-op just five minutes from Sowilo. Great for picking up snacks between meals at Sowilo.
  • Merck Forest: about 35 minutes away over the state line in Vermont, but worth the trip to one of our favorite places in the world. This forest & farm preserve offers loads of fun, from amazing hiking to close-up encounters with farm animals. Buy some maple syrup on the way out.
  • Battenkill Valley Outdoors: rent a canoe, raft, kayak or tube for a float down the Battenkill River.
  • Lauderdale Lake: for $2/car, spend the afternoon at this pristine nearby state park with a swimming lake, basketball and volleyball courts, horseshoes, swings and nature trails. Canoes and kayaks permitted.
