120 miles from NYC in Windham, NY
ROOMS:
Three bedrooms accommodates up to eleven guests
AMENITIES:
Wood-burning stove, fireplace, soaking tub, private pond, expansive deck, outdoor fire pit, pet friendly, 7 minutes to Windham skiing
Set on 2.5 secluded acres just minutes from Windham and Hunter Mountains, The Moon Cabin is a thoughtfully designed log home surrounded by forest, hiking trails, and a private pond. Traditional cabin architecture — soaring ceilings, exposed beams, and warm wood interiors — is balanced with modern comforts, creating a setting that feels equally suited to group getaways and quiet, restorative stays.
Inside, the open-concept layout centers around a wood-burning stove, with a light-filled kitchen and dining area overlooking the surrounding trees. Three bedrooms are spread across the main floor and lofted upper level, offering flexible sleeping arrangements for couples, families, or larger groups. Reading nooks, a vaulted loft, and a sunny breakfast alcove create plenty of cozy corners throughout the home.
Outdoor living is a highlight year-round. An expansive deck is outfitted with couches, a fire pit, and a built-in gas grill, with views stretching out toward the private pond and surrounding woods. In colder months, return indoors for fireside dinners, board games, or long soaks in the jacuzzi tub after a day on the slopes or trails.
While You’re Visiting:
- Hike the Black Dome and Blackhead Mountain Trail, a six-mile loop known for some of the most dramatic views in the Catskills; this is a more advanced route with steep elevation gain, best suited to experienced hikers. At the other end of the difficulty spectrum, the Windham Path offers a flat 2.5 mile scenic walk and great for snow shoeing;
- Stop by Paracasa for coffee, pantry staples, and thoughtfully curated home goods — an easy Windham ritual before or after time outdoors;
- Ski or snowboard at Windham Mountain, which offers 285 skiable acres across all ability levels, plus a notable adaptive snow sports program; explore more via our Escape Brooklyn Guide to Windham, NY;
- Head to Hunter, NY (about 15 minutes away) for another ski option at Hunter Mountain, plus a small but lively town scene; see our Escape Brooklyn Guide to Hunter, NY for where to eat, drink, and explore;
- If arriving or departing via the Thruway, consider a pitstop in Kingston, NY (Exit 19), where the Stockade District and Rondout waterfront are both worth exploring.
