Pale ales, summer sours, black lagers, dry whites, full-bodied reds, vodka, gin and bourbon: Sullivan Catskills has it all. With eight breweries, distilleries, and wineries in six towns, SullCo’s burgeoning artisanal beverage trail is only growing, with a handful of breweries and distilleries hoping to open in 2018. The largest concentration is in the Roscoe/Livingston Manor/Callicoon area, where visitors can hit four of the eight stops within 30 minutes of each other. BREWERIES

 

Callicoon Brewing Company | 16 Upper Main Street Callicoon | 845-887-5500

Located in a converted firehouse, the Callicoon Brewing Company overlooks Main Street in the sleepy hamlet of Callicoon. Amongst many local offerings, their own craft brews on tap include the Callicoon Cow Pale Ale and Callicoon Brown Cow Porter. Menu offerings include ruebens, burgers, and deep fried hot dogs.

Catskill Brewery | 672 Old Rte. 17, Livingston Manor | 845-439-1232

Housed inside a state-of-the-art beer barn, the Catskill Brewery sits on the side of one of New York’s most scenic roads, Old Route 17. Inside, the brewers make fresh ales and lagers just steps from the tasting room’s bar. Stop in for one of their award-winning beers like the Freak Tractor (blonde ale), Ball Lighting (pilsner), or Eye of Newt Flanders Red (sour.) Bonus: free popcorn!

Roscoe Beer Company | 145 Rockland Road, Roscoe | 607-290-5002

Home of the Trout Town handcrafted beer, Roscoe Beer Company has a cozy yet spacous 1,600 sq. foot tasting room—and a beautiful back yard. Weekend afternoon visitors are often treated to brewery tours, live music, or events like cornhole tournaments.

DISTILLERIES

 

Catskill Distilling Company | 2037 Rte. 17B, Bethel | 845-583-3141

Located 1000 feet from the entrance of Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center (the 1969 Woodstock Festival site) sits the the groovy Catskill Distilling Company. The NY State Farm Distillery produces many handcrafted spirits, the most popular being their Peace Vodka and Most Righteous Bourbon. Do a tasting and tour, then head to their sister business, the Dancing Cat Saloon & Cat Stills Café.

Prohibition Distillery | 10 Union Street, Roscoe | 607-498-4511

Housed in a repurposed firehouse, Prohibition Distillery produces award-winning vodka, bourbon and gin in Roscoe, NY. Stop into their beautiful tasting room for a tour, and in the summer, grab a cocktail at the Bootlegger’s Alley Bar on their patio.

CIDERIES & WINERIES

 

Aaron Burr Cider | Wurtsboro, NY

Located in Wurtsboro, NY, Aaron Burr Cider is a small homestead farm dating back to the early 19th century. Ciders are crafted with homegrown and locally foraged apples, furthering their mission is to re-create “true cider.” There’s no tasting room, but Aaron Burr is available to purchase at the nearby Bashakill Winery, farmers’ markets, and local shops and restaurants.

Steps away from a beautiful wetland preserve, Bashakill Vineyards & Winery is Sullivan County’s first commercially licensed farm winery. Open on weekends only, enjoy live music while you sip on a glass or share a bottle of small-bath Germanic style whites or an oak-aged red. All the grapes are grown organically, and grape pressings are composted back into the soil; meanwhile, sheep act as nature’s lawn mowers, munching away at Bashakill’s scenic grounds.

Eminence Road Farm Winery | 3734 Eminence Road, Long Eddy | 845-887-6280

In the tiny hamlet of Long Eddy, Eminence Road Farm Winery makes some of New York State’s best wines inside a picturesque barn. The grapes are from the nearby Finger Lakes region, hailing mostly from Seneca and Cayuga Lakes; wines are made from single vineyard lots. Eminescene’s remote, rustic winery is open for tastings by appointment, or find them at area farmers’ markets, and local shops and restaurants.
