Happy Friday to our Downstaters, and happy snow day to our Upstaters! In our home base of Livingston Manor (Catskills) atop Shandelee Mountain, we got about a foot of snow. After a long, warm autumn it appears winter is making her big debut. This week, we’re all about the seasonal transition. After a big trip out west with loads of sunshine and hiking, I’m fully charged on outdoor time and ready for some snow, my fireplace, and generally settling into winter. Maybe you are too?

Hannah here, stepping in for Erin as she enters the second stretch of a month-long West Coast road trip. I’m penning this week’s Weekend Inspiration newsletter from the Eastern Catskills, where I’m eagerly awaiting a drop in temperature… I hate to wish away fall, but by this point in November, all I can think about is mulled wine, heavy sweaters, and snow. (Fun fact about me: I’m a total winter fanatic!) It is, by far, my favorite season: there’s always something to do, especially in the Catskills, from skiing and snowshoeing to shopping around holiday markets and cozying up around a fire.

Summer is winding down, and while I’m so not ready for it, I must admit I’m looking forward to September. It is without a doubt The Best Month All Year. Giving equal parts hot days and cool nights, swimming hole and bonfire weather, it’s that absolutely perfect time to be Upstate. After a stretch of (return) hot weather, the cool mountain air just hits different. Today the high in the mountains is a glorious 70º.
